The end of 2020 marked the beginning of a thrilling but slightly nerve-wracking adventure for Jeff and I. We were bored staying at home for the majority of the time during Covid and were longing for adventure, any adventure!
I started browsing through endless listings and envisioning a life away from the city. It was all in good fun, as we had never seriously considered purchasing a second home. You wouldn’t have guessed it but the first house we saw sat on a 13.51 acres lot with a swamp! We did not have a chance to put in an offer because someone else snapped it the next day.
Since then, the idea of living on a big lot of land, not having to share a wall with anyone, and being surrounded with nature suddenly sounded soooo appealing to us. We filtered the search for lots that were minimum of 5 acres and there it was, this unconventional house caught our eyes.
“Unconventional” was a generous way to describe the house..

Built in the 1960s, everything about it exuded a sense of modest proportions, from the room dimensions to the height of the ceiling.

This hallway/area on the other side of the kitchen made no sense and had no real purpose.

Not to mention the master bedroom was a criminal ugly and cold.

The rest of the house appeared quite neglected, with a half-hearted attempt at demolition. Made me think that the previous owner had perhaps intended to renovate but had abandoned the project midway.

But you know what made it worth it for us? This view:

Look at us babies didn't know what we got ourselves into the day of close!
